At the latest at a monthly salary of 50,000 THB, the question arises whether one should engage a professional recruitment agency for the search. Quality agencies charge roughly 2.5 – 3 months’ salary including a success fee to conduct a comprehensive screening, filtering, and evaluation of the candidates. It’s a comprehensive recruiting process. That’s not on the cheap.
But against this, what price to pay for making the wrong personnel choice? Let’s do a cold business calculation!
- First, even the most unfit candidate wants his salary each month. Plus, he higher remunerated the position, for the longer it takes to assess the fitness of the novice employee. Therefore, let’s assume that it turns out after a probation period of two or three months that we hired the wrong person. This makes it already a “draw” compared to the costs of a recruiter.
- Respectable companies will also follow the laws. It means that even during probation, there is an “one-pay-period” so at least 30 days’ notice before termination. Now, already the cost of hiring a recruiting service is lower by 1 month’s salary versus filling the job wrongly.
- If one is only uncertain for a few days longer whether the “new one” was a misstep or is still developing, an employment of 120 days was reached quickly and a severance payment of one month’s salary is legally due. 70 % or 2 monthly salaries is the cost of “saving” the fee of a hiring a professional recruiter. At a salary of 50,000 THB, this is already an add-on cost of 100,000 THB.
- Last but not least, the damage caused by incapable employees during 3 months is not yet considered: Lost or missed business because of a lousy salesperson, claims and damages caused by a technical engineer, annoyed customers or tax authorities due to incorrect invoices or tax reports, as well as frustrated co-workers due to unsuitable supervisors – all of these are the cost of making the wrong personnel choices
